Fees and Physical Examination

There is a fee for participation in each sport, and a current physical exam must be on file in the office. The fee is to be paid to the school by the first day of practice in order for the student to participate. Fees are non-refundable after the student attends the first practice. The physical form must be signed by a doctor and turned in to the school office before a student can participate in athletics and cheerleading. Only one physical is required per year.

Eligibility for WCSAL Participation

An eligibility policy has been established for St. Joseph Catholic School, with the policy following the standards set by the WCSAL. These guidelines are meant as minimum standards for the Catholic schools in the league, and individual schools have the right to develop additional requirements. Our policy recognizes the importance of developing the whole person while focusing on the primary objectives of academic and spiritual growth stated by our school. Students are required to meet the standard set by our school for the following activities: football, cheerleading, academic league, Battle of the Books, volleyball, basketball, or any other activity sponsored by the school. Standards set by St. Joseph Catholic School are as follows:

  1. An eligibility form must be signed by the parent and student and returned to the school office before he/she may participate in an activity. One form covers for one or more activities.
  2. The student must attend school for the entire day to participate in practice/games that day. The school principal must approve any exceptions to this.
  3. Student grades will be monitored on a weekly basis, as required by the WCSAL. The standard for St. Joseph Catholic School requires students to maintain a 75% or above. Falling below this benchmark will automatically place a student on probation for one week. Notification of a student not in good standing academically or behaviorally shall occur each Tuesday by written communication to be signed by a parent and returned to the school office the following day.
  4. When the grade/behavior is raised to a 75% or above, and all other grades are at the 75% benchmark, the student will be allowed to continue participation in the activity.
  5. A student may not practice with the team, be present at team practices, or attend organizational meetings while on probation. He/she is not allowed to participate in any league/tournament games or activities during this period.
  6. A student receiving an in/out-of-school suspension shall be placed on one week probation effective the day the suspension was issued. Should a second suspension occur during an activity season, the student shall not be allowed to continue as a member of the team/organization.
  7. Should a student be placed on probation for the second time during an activity season, he/she shall not be allowed to continue as a member of the team/organization for the duration of that specific activity.
  8. The Principal and Athletic Director may limit, suspend, or prohibit students from participation in athletic practice or games for academic or behavior problems as deemed necessary.
