In November, the first grade, and some of their parents, stepped back in time as they studied pioneer life. On the final day of study, a memorable afternoon was spent doing pioneer activities. Dressed in bonnets and “coonskin” caps, the girls and boys participated in dipping candles, constructing miniature pioneer wagons, sewing, hammering tin ornaments, printing the alphabet on hornbooks using a quill and ink, and making log cabins using milk cartons and pretzels. The exhausted children thought pioneer life to be fun, but not simple!
